Customer Robbed Outside Grocery Store

Sioux Falls

Police say a woman was robbed at knifepoint outside a south Sioux Falls grocery store on Monday afternoon.

Just before 2:30 p.m. Monday, a woman was in the parking lot at Hy-Vee near 57th Street and Cliff Avenue returning her shopping cart. Police say that man took her purse and tried to stab her with a pocket knife after she fell to the ground.

The suspect was described as a man, possibly being Native American, wearing all black with a scarf covering his face. He was last seen running to the west.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said that this type of robbery is pretty rare, especially during the daytime. He advised the public to remain aware of their surroundings.
