SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Top-seeded Augustana continues their 2018 NCAA D-II Women’s Basketball Tournament run in a contest with No. 2 Central Missouri in the Central Region Championship game. The matchup is slated for a 7 p.m. tip off on Monday, March 12 inside the Elmen Center.
The Vikings (29-3) are making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since the 2012-13 season and earned the NSIC’s automatic bid after defeating Winona State 64-45 in the conference championship game back on Feb. 27.
Since then, Augie has won their last seven games and are rolling into their first ever meeting with the Jennies after a thrilling, come-from-behind overtime win over Northern State on Saturday night in the semifinals.
Central Missouri (26-3) finds themselves in the Central Region Championship game after defeating Minnesota State-Moorhead, 66-49 in the quarterfinal round and Fort Hays State, 66-59, in the semifinals.
This year’s NCAA Tournament marks the 20th time the Jennies have qualified for the big dance. They’ve been crowned regional champions six times, with their last one coming in 1989.
Paige Redmond, a 5-8 junior out of Springdale, Ark. leads Central Missouri with 16.2 points and four rebounds a game. Morgan Fleming is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.7 points a contest, while Morgan Skaggs pours in 11.4 points-per-game. Kayonna Lee, a 6-1 forward from Eau Claire, Wis. is the teams’ leading rebounder, pulling in over eight boards a contest.
In the semifinal battle with the Wolves, five players scored in double-figures for the Vikings, led by Lynsey Prosser’s season-high 21 points. Paige Peterson (16), Presley O’Farrell (15), Logan O’Farrell (12), Shelby Selland (11) were the others who scored 10-plus for Augustana.
Augie’s Logan O’Farrell, who won the NSIC Tournament MVP, leads the team with 14.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists-per-game. The senior from Summit, S.D. also leads the squad with 44 blocks and 102 steals. Her twin sister, Presley O’Farrell, is second on the team with 11.9 ppg to go along with her nearly five rebounds and three assists-per-game. Selland, a junior from Letcher, S.D., is the third member of the Augustana basketball team that averages 10-plus points-per-game. She muscles up 10.4 points and 5.3 rebounds-per-game and has 43 blocks in 2017-18. Peterson drops in just over 10 points and snags 4.0 rebounds a game.

The winner between the Vikings and the Jennies will be crowned Central Region Champions and advance to the NCAA D-II Elite Eight at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Monday, March 19.
