Former South Dakota State All-American Zach Zenner returned to Brookings on Friday.
The current Detroit Lions running back teamed up with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to give a new perspective on football.
For Zach Zenner, it's always special returning to Brookings.
"It's such a giving community and for me to come back and have a little camp like this is really the least I could do," Zenner said.
During his Jackrabbit career Zenner ran for more than 6,500 yards and scored nearly 30 touchdowns during his senior season alone. Now, he's sharing his knowledge of the game with the stars of tomorrow.
"I've received so much in my life, not only through mentors and what I had around me growing up but the support I've received, again, here at South Dakota State, and the state of South Dakota and even back home too is awesome so just an opportunity to give back in any way I can," Zenner said.
However, this camp's a little different than the ones Zenner usually helps with. Today, he's not only focusing on the game of football, but also on the game of life by teaming up with the Brookings Area Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
"I came to South Dakota State and here we have FCA, this group of like minded athletes, competitive people, meeting and talking about Jesus. It really was a new thing for me and I loved it so it really opened the door for my faith to grow," Zenner said.
Zenner was a member of the Brookings Area FCA throughout his college career and enjoys sharing the bigger message.
"If I were to wish for something or pray for something it'd be that everyone remembers that, that they all accept Jesus as their savior. You know, will that happen? Who knows, but that's the hope and if only one person that happens, absolutely worth it," Zenner said.
Zenner returns to the field next month as the Lions begin training camp on July 26.
