The morning rain is not severe, but storms later today may be severe in the west. The slight risk zone includes Rapid City.  Large hail and damaging downburst winds will be the main threats, but an isolated tornado can't be ruled out.

You can see the storms this evening on FutureScan.  Notice how they fall apart after midnight East River.  Sioux Falls has very little chance of rain overnight.  However, more storms will redevelop west of Sioux Falls Friday afternoon and evening.   Areas of heavy rain are expected.

The initial heavier rainfall will align from Watertown and Brookings, southwest toward Mitchell and Chamblerain.  We think Sioux Falls will start getting heavier rain by Saturday into Sunday.
