Over the next few months several businesses will open in a very busy area of Sioux Falls.
The Hidden Valley development is along 57th Street, in between Louise and Western Avenues.
It's one of the few areas not developed here because the land was in a flood plain until recently.
Soon it will be flooding with new businesses.
Don't call it just a liquor store. This week JJ's Wine, Spirits & Cigars is moving into a new location.
"What we've built here is an enhanced adult beverage experience," Owner Tom Slattery said.
JJ's will start selling alcohol at Hidden Valley on Wednesday. It's also booking meetings and celebrations in its event space. By the end of the month, the 10,000-square-foot building will also house a bar and Boozy Bakery.
"We'll have some manner of sweet treats infused with alcohol, but also a large number of old-fashioned chocolate chip cookies," Slattery said.
In addition to JJ's, crews are also busy working on another retail complex next door. You'll likely soon hear about another business coming here in the next few weeks.
"We're actually in negotiations with a national tenant who would be new to this market. We hope to announce that soon," Legacy Development Spokeswoman Stacy Jones said.
The Stone Center and Cambria Gallery also plan to open in the building around the end of summer.
"One of the biggest draws is the location. It's right on 57th Street in close visibility to I-229. For a lot of retailers, including JJ's, it's great accessibility and visibility," Jones said.
Visibility that Slattery hopes means more visitors to his store.
"It's something that's absolutely not duplicated in this market right now," Slattery said.
Slattery does have a plan for the former JJ's location near the intersection of 57th and Western.
You'll be able to buy alcohol there, but it will also have a beer hall where you can hang out and play different games, such as shuffle board.
